Agency investigating Rove's political operation

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel is looking into whether Rove -- President Bush's longtime trusted political strategist -- or other White House aides violated federal law by making political presentations to government employees in the run-up to last year's midterm elections.

Russia Plans World's Longest Tunnel, a Link to Alaska

April 18 (Bloomberg) -- Russia plans to build the world's longest tunnel, a transport and pipeline link under the Bering Strait to Alaska, as part of a $65 billion project to supply the U.S. with oil, natural gas and electricity from Siberia.

The project, which Russia is coordinating with the U.S. and Canada, would take 10 to 15 years to complete, Viktor Razbegin, deputy head of industrial research at the Russian Economy Ministry, told reporters in Moscow today. State organizations and private companies in partnership would build and control the route, known as TKM-World Link, he said.

Ron Paul: More Guns Will Deter Shootings

"People are a little more cautious if somebody might have a gun there," the GOP presidential candidate told Politico reporters Tuesday. "A concealed gun carried by a responsible person -- that might have ended the problem that they had at Virginia Tech with one person being killed or two people being killed."

"Lost" White House Emails Are NOT Lost (a note from your friendly, neighborhood IT Guy--Updated)

As an IT guy, I know all too well that most emails are nearly impossible to "lose," especially if one really wants to find them. In fact, if the emails in question really are gone for good it probably means that there was a tremendously expensive, concerted effort to destroy them (and, if so, it should be very easy to prove that they were intentionally destroyed). --- Can anyone just dial up the NSA (whose only job seems to be spying on US citizens lately) and get them to drop those printed emails off at the local FBI office please? (lol)

NH House of Representatives votes 268-8 to reject federal Real ID Act

In a lopsided 268-8 vote, the House passed HB685, which declares that New Hampshire will not participate in the federal REAL ID act. This vote also sends a clear message to the State Senate, which gutted and killed a similar bill last year. At the time, Governor Lynch had indicated that he would sign such a bill.

The collapse of an administration

The three big Bush stories of 2007--the decision to "surge" in Iraq, the scandalous treatment of wounded veterans at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the firing of eight U.S. Attorneys for tawdry political reasons--precisely illuminate the three qualities that make this Administration one of the worst in American history: arrogance (the surge), incompetence (Walter Reed) and cynicism (the U.S. Attorneys).

Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today reintroduced his bill making important changes to the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which in its current form, does not provide a credible process for bringing suspected terrorists to justice. Sen. Dodd first introduced his bill last Congress and after working with human rights groups and experts in military law, Sen. Dodd was joined by Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Russ Feingold (D-WI) introducing the measure again in the 110th Congress.
